There’s that moment you realize – wow I actually know a lot more than I thought I did. I had that moment last weekend and it gave me a little confidence boost.

Sometimes you’re just chugging along at life, doing your thing, and POOF – two years goes by. I’m specifically talking about blogging, but this could apply to anything you’re up to – being a teacher, parent, lawyer, wife, enthusiastic basket weaver.
I always thought of myself as a “newbie” blogger and social media-er. I keep trying things to see what works and what doesn’t. When someone asked me how to do something specific I’d be like “ohh ya know I’m still new and I haven’t figured it out yet.” But this weekend a friend was asking me about social media and website creation, and I realized that I’m no longer a novice – I could practically write the book.
Let’s give ourselves some more credit, shall we? When you can give an answer to a question or offer some advice – that makes you an expert. When others start wanting your opinion, that’s another indication that you’re a couple steps ahead.
So for me, I’m not exactly sure when this light bulb switched on, but it felt really good! Like hey, this is a tough subject that not everyone knows about. I can actually give you some mind blowing advice! Do I have a marketing degree with a concentration in social media expertise? Could I teach the course at Yale? Most likely not, but it still feels pretty darn good to know how far I’ve come. So let’s remember the things we DO know, rather than dwell on the things we don’t.
Other things on which I consider myself to be an expert:
- Mascara. I’ve tried them all and have strong opinions;
- Coffee creamers;
- Meal delivery boxes;
- Shopping (kind of obvious there);
- Cats.
As an aside – how insanely cute is this ruffle top!? It comes in petite sizes, too. It would be absolutely perfect for Valentine’s Day. I wore a nude bra underneath, but you could definitely wear a tank under if that makes you feel more comfortable. I paired it with basics like these trusty Sam Edelman nude pumps and my favorite Agolde jeans (size down, they’re stretchy). These jeans are amazing because the cropped style fits my 5’1″ teeny legs perfectly! No alterations needed! GASP!
What is one subject on which you consider yourself an expert? Tell me in the comments!

p.s. – I wrote some blogging advice here and here!

Lol ???? I totally hear you though. A lot of times it’s hard to give ourselves a pat on the back because we forget how much we already know. I don’t know I guess somehow it goes out the door with the day to day? Love your blouse! The color is a nice red and the details add a fun personality to your look. And I can’t forget about your mirrored sunnies! Just love ????????????

I love that positive advice! We all know things that others don’t, let’s focus on the positive attributes of ourselves and have a little patience with the things we are still learning. Thanks for the inspiration today, it was much needed. I do love that top, it is so fun! Have a great weekend 🙂

Yup, you don’t realize how much you’re learning and mastering until one day someone truly new asks you and you’re like “hey, i know exactly how to do that and can talk your ear off for an hour about it! But on another note, spill the mascara advice because I’m out of my Dior mascara and want to try something new!
Roxanne says
Isn’t it crazy how that happens!?
If you love Diorshow then I think you will really like L’Oreal’s Lash Paradise! It has that same dense brush. Also L’Oreal Voluminous is a cult favorite, and Maybelline’s Colossal Volume (in the yellow tube)! Oy I really need to just do a post on this, haha.

Love love love this post! I know what you mean. I still think of myself as a “beginner,” but I think we know more than we give ourselves credit for. LOVE this top too. Adding this to my shopping cart NOW!

Thanks so much Liz! I guess that in the blogging business we are always learning something new, so we never know when we cross the threshold from beginner to expert. We’re always somewhere on the spectrum depending on the subject.
Thanks for the sweet compliment! It comes in light pink too 🙂

I love this post! It’s so true that you become knowledgeable on subjects without realizing it… I’m absolutely fabulous at being a student and not “adulting” I’m probably going to be a student once again soon!

I love the top on you- color style, lips- it all works and great advice on everyone being an expert in something. I’m sure you can teach the blogging class at Yale- or maybe the coffee creamer class-lol!!
Roxanne says
Thank you! Haha I’d love to teach both of those subjects.

Oh I love that top, it’s beautiful and the colour is perfect with your jeans! 🙂
It’s true too, we don’t give ourselves enough credit sometimes. It’s nice to celebrate the things we are good at! 🙂
Hope you’ve been having a lovely week! Another busy one here, but not as stressful as last week so that’s nice 🙂
