Outfits Inspired by Our Birth Year

Our inspiration for this quarter’s outfit collaboration is the year we were born. For me that’s 1988. If you ask my mother in law to tell you her favorite decade for fashion, she always says the 80’s. Why? The big hair! I personally also love big hair! Any excuse to bust out the hairspray is a fun time.

I polled my fellow magnificent 8 ladies about their favorite 80’s fashion and here’s what they said:

• The best fashion picture of the 80s was the TV Show,  Dynasty hence power suits, big hair, statement jewelry…
• Big Hair, cropped sweaters…
• …my Goth stage! Short plaid skater dresses, ripped tights, and Doc Martens dominated my wardrobe.

I decided to go with a power suit and big hair, and a tiny bit of menswear influence with the braided belt. I remember my mom’s closet was dominated by shoulder pads and pumps, and a swipe of bright lipstick to top it off. What a fun outfit to put together! I would totally wear this outfit in modern times!

The Magnificent 8 – Birth Year Styling

We were inspired by the Pantone color of the year in April, the Year of the Dragon in January, the color Red in October, the blazer trend last April, did statement pants for spring, and an “outside the box”styling theme last January. Some more themes: pearls, a yellow theme last July, a garden theme, styled vintage and heirloom pieces, and now we’re back with another fun styling theme.

The Magnificent 8 is a collaboration among 8 stylish women, each in a different age bracket, ranging from early 20’s to early 80’s. The mission of this collaboration is to show you just how ageless style is and how we each interpret a theme in a unique yet timeless way. There are no age restrictions on style. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence. Be sure to check out all 7 of these amazing gals!
