Before Sidney was born, a fellow mom gave me some advice about motherhood. She said “You’ll be tired, but it is a different kind of tired.” And she was SO right. Luckily I have found some the best under eye concealers to help with dark circles that I now frequently find under my eyes.
I’m pretty tired, but sleepless from love. Not the angry kind of sleepy that makes people lash out on their loved ones and coworkers. But regardless of my feeling of tired, my undereyes don’t know that difference. They still look pretty blue and, well, … exhausted.
Concealer is a mom’s best friend. And if you’re not a mom but you burn the midnight oil working on your hustle, then this post is for you, too. Because, let’s be real, a lot of us do both.
These five concealers are my tried and tested holy grails. I don’t discriminate on brand or price! In fact, I included two drugstore brand concealers and three high end favorites. Here is why I love them all.
The Best Under Eye Concealers
NYX HD Concealer Wand ($5)
This is my secret to looking like I get 8 hours of sleep every night. This NYX concealer is multi-use so you can use it on your under eyes, blemishes, or to conceal any scars or redness on your face. It has a precise applicator for dotting product in the right places. The formula is easy to apply rather than thick or gloopy like some concealers. As always, NYX is cruelty free, and I’m all about brands that are kind to animals.
Revlon PhotoReady Candid Antioxidant Concealer ($5)
Well that’s a mouthful of a name. This budget-friendly concealer does a great job at camouflaging undereye bags and puffiness, as well as any redness or blemishes on my face. It is infused with caffeine, which is an ingredient that always works for me in undereye products. I like that it is pretty buildable, so you can wear less or more depending on your plans. The doe-foot applicator is a nice touch, so you’re not contaminating the product with your fingers or a brush.
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer ($27)
This one is a cult favorite, so I’m SURE you’ve heard about it! Tarte claims to sell one every 12 seconds! For me, shape tape is strictly for the under eye region. It doesn’t crease or flake, living up to its name of a “tape” because it really does stick on wherever you put it. Shape Tape has a lovely brightening effect, so you wouldn’t want to use it on blemishes for fear of making them stand out. I use this concealer when I’m shooting photos or going out for date night.
RMS Beauty Un Cover-Up Concealer/Foundation ($36)
I was first introduced to RMS Beauty when I went to New York Fashion Week a couple of years ago and popped into the Birchbox store for some shopping. RMS Beauty is clean, and most of their products are great for multiple uses. Which his why this one is called concealer/foundation, because you can use as much as you like or need. They have lip tints that can also be used on your cheeks! I like to use this concealer on days when I don’t want to wear a full face of make up but still have some areas to neutralize. I just pop some on my under eyes and on any red patches (around my nose and on blemishes) and I’m good to go. It is so light and natural-looking that it doesn’t make me feel like I’m wearing anything at all.
Benefit Erase Paste (Now Called Boi-ing) ($22)
This concealer is full coverage and I mean FULL. It has a thicker consistency, which is fabulous for covering blemishes as well as your under eyes on the worst days of tiredness. The salmon shade (Shade 2) is perfect for neutralizing blueish tones under your eyes. I swore by this one in law school and now I use it on my most tired days.
