Another Use For Your Clip-On Earrings
Did you inherit some costume jewelry from your great great aunt? Chances are, a pair or two of clip on earrings was in the mix. I’m not sure why clip-on earrings were so popular back in the day (perhaps ear piercing was taboo) but the trend has blessed us with lots of big, fancy earrings that are begging to be repurposed.
Since the theme of this month’s Magnificent 8 post is styling things in a way that wasn’t intended, I came up with the idea to use the earrings as shoe charms! I was thinking of the classic Manolo Blahnik pumps that have the gorgeous crystal buckle on the front and thought, “why can’t we recreate something like that?!” And it’s not just Manolo, other designers have embraced the pretty embellishments.
My mom has a lot of old family costume jewelry, but since I thought of this idea literally two days ago I didn’t have time to ask her to send me some clip-ons. We headed to a local secondhand shop’s jewelry case where I was greeted with a whole tray of fancy, embellished clip-on earrings! I snagged a pair for $3 and set out to shoot. Once I got home, I pulled out some boots, strappy sandals, and pumps to show you how easy it is to jazz up your shoes. Totally unexpected, and so easy.

The Magnificent 8
The Magnificent 8 is back and this time we all decided to style something outside the box! Or, in a way that it wasn’t originally intended. We styled pearls in October, a yellow theme in July, a garden theme in April, styled vintage and heirloom pieces in January, animal print last October, white dresses last July, and now we’re back with another fun styling theme.
The Magnificent 8 is a collaboration among 8 stylish women, each in a different age bracket, ranging from early 20’s to early 80’s. The mission of this collaboration is to show you just how ageless style is, how we can each dress however we’d like and in ways that make us feel fabulous. There are no age restrictions on style. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence. Be sure to check out all 7 of these amazing gals! And make sure you check back in April for our next collaboration!
Let me introduce the ladies of The Magnificent 8. Head to the blogs below to see how each of us styled something outside the box!

These are the perfect clip-ons for this purpose! I don’t have my ears pierced, so I only wear clip-ons that belonged to my grandma. Sometimes I wear them on my shoes, too! But sometimes they’re too small, so they look funny. I love how big yours are, and they look made for those purple velvet heels.

This is such a fun way to use old earrings! I remember having a lot of clip on earrings as a kid and they were not very comfortable at all! This seems like a much more fun way to wear them and will definitely get them noticed instead of having them hiding under your hair! 🙂
Hope that your week is going well 🙂

Can I just say how much I LOVE this Roxanne!! I bought a pair at the thrift store to use as extra bling on necklaces and scarves. But on shoes??? YES!! In fact, my mom still has some shoe clips (unless she purged them in this move to AZ??)

Roxanne, this is absolutely brilliant! I love the idea of clip on earrings as shoe embellishments! And now I have to start scoping out the jewelry more often when I go thrifting! I usually end up spending too much time in the clothes that I forget to check the jewelry. This particular pair of earrings is gorgeous and perfect for this outside the box styling prompt!
