Banana Foster Milkshake: A Striped Blouse as A Crop Top

Do I look like a gondolier in this striped top and straw hat? You know, those guys in Venice who drive the gondolas and sing you romantic songs? Haha, either way I love this easy outfit and I hope you do too.

This weekend it was 100 degrees and muggy. I was SWIMMING in sweat pretty much as soon as I stepped outside. But the weather didn’t stop us from having a jam packed weekend of fun.

I wore this outfit to go to a burger joint on Dupont called Bareburger. I really wanted to try it because they have all organic, cage-free, grass-fed, non GMO, antibiotic-free food. I’m all about responsible eating. PLUS they will wrap your burger in a collard green if you ask! It was insanely delicious, washed down with a banana’s foster milkshake. Nom nom nom.

This blouse is from a company called MakeMeChic.com. They have the same owner as SheIn.com, but with slighly different merchandise. So the same rules for shopping at SheIn (check out this post) apply. Read the reviews and sizing recommenations very carefully! I ordered a size small. SheIn is totally on point right now by they way – I also got this Chloe handbag dupe (it looks JUST like the real one) for just $31.

I originally had this striped blouse tucked in to the front of my jeans. Since it was so darn hot, I decided to tie it like a crop top. I LOVE the versatility of a button down because you can dress it up or down. Tuck it in the traditional way, let it be flowy with leggings, belt it, or tie it!

I didn’t always think this way. When we moved to DC and I took a hiatus from traditional lawyering, I was ready to throw out all my button downs. To me they signified wearing a suit, which I loathe.

If you’re wearing a pencil skirt and a button down to work, untuck it and tie it when you are meeting your friends for happy hour. OR wear your button downs on the weekend like I did, by rolling up the sleeves and pairing with your favorite jeans or shorts. Get some cost per wear out of your tops!

You don’t have to tie it as high as I did. Like I said, I was extremely warm. AND these pictures were taken pre-burger, fyi.

Happy Monday!
