Since I’ve been in Chicago for about a year and a half now, I figured it was time do some exploring outside of the city. Since I had never been to the famous Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, I decided to head there on Friday and try on some spring fashion looks!
My first impression: Woodfield mall is massive! And they have basically every store I already love to shop at, plus more. I started my afternoon by having a delicious lunch of fish tacos at Uncle Julios, then hit the ground running.
I wanted to style spring fashion outfits from retailers at which I don’t normally shop. After checking out Woodfield Mall’s store directory, I narrowed it down to Urban Outfitters, Uniqlo, Altar’d State, and Tommy Bahama! Keep on reading to see the fun and fashionable spring looks I put together at Woodfield Mall!
Spring Fashion at Urban Outfitters
My first stop was Urban Outfitters, known for their youngish vibes and bohemian aesthetic. I grabbed a light purple denim skirt, a couple of springy tops, some nice spring/summer transition pieces, and the cutest sherpa jean jacket and headed to the dressing room! Admittedly, I loved everything I tried on!
I love how a fitted denim skirt looks with a flowy boho top, which makes the outfit on the far left one of my favorites. The poppy-colored sun dress is perfect for summer, and a versatile jean jacket makes it just right for spring. The rust shift dress came home with me!
Spring Fashion at Uniqlo
I’ve been to Uniqlo to browse, but I rarely shop there! They have tons of affordable basics in almost every color you ca think of, with some fun pieces mixed in.
The outfit on the left gives me major preppy office vibes! I love a good sleeveless button down, and a colorful cardigan is necessary to keep yourself from freezing in the office. Uniqlo had culottes in almost every color, but I love the neutral brownish-rust of the ones in the middle photo! Paired with a graphic tee and a colored jean jacket.
Finally, a simple linen shirtdress. I know this last look isn’t an “outfit” per se, but think of how versatile a dress like this can be! Swap out the belt for a different one, add a lightweight scarf, or throw a blazer on top. The possibilities are endless.
Spring Fashion at Altar’d State
Think Free People vibes without the Free People price tag. That’s what Altar’d State is! I would have tried on literally everything in the store if I had unlimited time, but I restrained myself and only grabbed my favorites. The navy embroidered floral dress is the most comfortable piece ever, and it looks so beautiful in person! I bought it, along with the fringe necklace I styled.
The striped jumpsuit is so fun, paired with a lace sleeveless kimono. I could totally see myself rocking it at a festival! And of course, flowy colorful bohemian tops galore. They are that one item of clothing I can’t get enough of! Note: the jeans are my own. Did you notice how cute the dressing rooms are? They have adorable little faux plants in them 🙂
I should warn you – I believe Altar’d State has a Christian religious affiliation. I noticed when the music was a little too upbeat (if you catch my drift) and there were Christian slogans on wood panels near the back of the store. It doesn’t bother me because the clothes are cute, but it caught me a bit off guard, haha.
Spring Fashion at Tommy Bahama
Tommy Bahama inspires vacation. I’m so happy that Woodfield Mall has one, because I’ve never tried their clothes before and I really wanted to know what the hype was about. I was going to go to Nordstrom (which is right next door) but took a detour and decided to try something new and unexpected instead. The store is full of gorgeous blues and turquoises this time of year, which remind me of the ocean.
I grabbed an “Aloha” clutch since we’re going to Hawaii on Thursday and it made me happy. First, a monochromatic look, with turquoise denim and a lightweight printed turquoise sweater. Next, a soft jersey tie dye maxi dress, with the perfect linen jacket. I tried the pants with a knotted button down just to add some color to the mix, and ended up really liking how the outfit turned out. Finally, the most vibrant blue striped dress two ways: Once on its own and again with a fringed cardigan for an evening option.
WoodField Mall Spring Shopping Experience
If you’re near Woodfield Mall or have the chance to stop by, there’s no better place for spring shopping! There is something so nice about walking into a store and touching the fabrics, interacting with the salespeople, and putting together outfits on the spot. I do most of my shopping online, but from time to time I love to go to the stores to amp up my inspiration. And with so many great stores in one place, let’s just say Woodfield Mall exploded my spring fashion inspiration!

That brown jumpsuit you featured screams Summer! I love the ruffle hems on the bottom and how cute is it paired with the lace kimono?! I’ll take one please! I have not been to the mall in awhile. Our mall doesn’t have a lot of options and I would need to drive at least 30 minutes to our closest one. I am so excited for your trip on Thursday. You guys will have so much fun!

Definitely going to go shopping to find that clutch now! Thanks for doing this try-on. I always get a little nervous stepping in to stores I haven’t shopped before, and now I feel a little more confident just heading on in!!

The Ahola one or the taco shaped one?! Either way, they’re both so fun. This experience has taught me to go outside my comfort zone!

We discovered Altar’d State in our mall too. See the name…another take on the Christian thing. But the dressing rooms were amazing and they do have the cutest things. I have a couple of things from there even though some might think it’s too young. Then again, I feel 20 again, so why not?? LOL
XOXO

I love the uniqlo items the best – a new brand to me! I’m a sucker for a skirt dress! I was blown away by the size of American Malls when we first experienced them 20 years ago. Now, we have a number around London for me to lose a blissful day in xx Maria
