My trip to New York feels like ages ago, but it has been less than 2 weeks! I love visiting the city that never sleeps, but choosing outfits for a city that fills me with inspiration is always a challenge. Especially when I have to fit everything in one small carry on. But I think I did it perfectly this time.
NYC OUTFIT DETAILS:
VIBE APPAREL PANTS c/o | TANK | LOAFERS | ANDIAMO LUGGAGE | TOTE | SUNNIES | CROSSBODY BAG
My sizes: pants – small | loafers – tts | tank – small
I started the trip out on the right foot with this comfy and stylish pair of culottes. You can see my 6am Chicago metro face above, then me on the lower east side after a couple cups of coffee and retail therapy, haha. I packed everything in my Andiamo Luggage carry on for this trip. At first I wasn’t a huge fan of this bag, but once I learned how to pack it correctly, it quickly became my go-to for 3-4 day trips. It doesn’t zip closed – instead you close and latch it for easy opening and closing. I really really love that.
This outfit took me seamlessly from the train to the plane to a bus, the subway, schlepping to our hotel, and out for some shopping and a tour of the tenement museum. I’m typically a jeans girl, but I loved these pants for a change.

VIBE APPAREL DRESS c/o | HEELS, OPTION FOR LESS | BAG, OPTION
My sizes: dress – small | heels – tts
I wanted to pack a dress for a fancy dinner on Thursday night, but not something I would have to iron the crapola out of for 30 minutes. We went to Le Bernadin, a Michelin star restaurant, so I felt like I had to be fancy. FYI it was delicious! The temperature was about 100 degrees out, so this cotton dress was the perfect choice. And it folds up super small in my carry on. I’m sure you can tell, it made me happy! And the midi length is so flattering because it makes me look tall.
NYC OUTFIT DETAILS:
ANN TAYLOR SHORTS c/o | LACE BODYSUIT | LOAFERS | EARRINGS | SUNNIES | BAG
My sizes: shorts – 2 | bodysuit – US4 | loafers – tts
You probably recognize this pineapple print from a dress I recently wore. I liked the print so much that I had to get these breezy shorts, too. I picked out this super cute lace bodysuit at TopShop on Thursday afternoon and it happened to work perfectly with my shorts! It also comes in black and yellow, and has crotch snaps for easy bathroom situations.
I wore this outfit to see the Heavenly Bodies exhibit at the Met on Friday, then on the train to Long Island for our cousin’s wedding. Comfy and light without sacrificing style!
NYC OUTFIT DETAILS:
SHEIN DRESS c/o | SANDALS | BAG | SUNNIES
My sizes: dress – small | sandals – tts
We had some time to chill on Long Island before the wedding festivities. We drove to Port Jefferson, which is the cutest seaside town, to have lunch and explore. You’ve seen me wear this palm print dress a bunch of times, because it is one of my absolute go-to’s! It is only $15 and happens to be a piece a can’t live without. I took it to France last summer, too.
NYC OUTFIT DETAILS:
ADRIANNA PAPELL DRESS c/o | HEELS, SIMILAR FOR LESS | LIPS
My sizes: dress – 2 | heels – tts
Here’s our wedding guest look! Dan got his suit from Bonobos (his favorite at the moment) and I got my dress from Zappos. It is comfortable and versatile, and I’ve already worn it to 2 weddings this summer. I wish I would have gone 1 more size down, though. My heels are a huge splurge, but I linked a very similar pair above for a fraction of the price.
NYC OUTFIT DETAILS:
RUFFLE TANK | SHORTS | LOAFERS | BAG | SUNNIES
My sizes: tank – small | shorts – small | loafers – tts
I wore this look for our final day in the city and to travel back home to Chicago. As I’m sure you noticed, I was going for comfortable basics with a bit of flair on this trip. I bought this tank from Shein for just $15 and I’m pretty sure I wear it AT LEAST once a week because it goes with literally everything. The shoulder ruffles make it special. And these $15 shorts are SO cute and flattering. Paper bag tie waist pants are really trendy right now. I am seriously contemplating getting them in pink, too. Plus the fabric doesn’t look bad when the shorts get crumpled, which is key for travel attire. If you’re between sizes, I recommend sizing up on the shorts.
That’s all I wore! I brought some other things as back ups (don’t we all) but I’m really happy with my outfits overall. Our flight was only delayed once (yay) and we arrived home to Jake and Elwood around midnight. Confession: I still haven’t unpacked everything. Stay tuned for a photo diary of our trip, which included the tenement museum, MET heavenly bodies exhibit, and snaps from the always inspiring NYC.
