We found out the baby’s gender early last week at our 20 week anatomy ultrasound – and we are ecstatic!

We got back from Hawaii on Monday and couldn’t wait for our 20 week ultrasound! The technician spent about an hour measuring the baby – the head, legs, arms, torso, feet, spine, etc etc. Finally at the end of the hour, she said “you guys have been kind of quiet about this…do you want to know the gender?” and we both shouted YES we do! After finding the perfect position, she told us…
IT’S A GIRL!
In my heart, I secretly wanted a girl. But I was afraid to say it out loud. Of course if she had turned out to be a little boy, I would have been thrilled as well! But I always dreamed of having a girl first, and now my dreams are coming true!
Dan is excited too, because he said he secretly wanted a girl as well. Historically, Birnbaums have always had boys first. Dan’s grandmother, his mother, his aunt, and our sister in law all had boys first. So I think we’re kind of shocked that our little girl is already bucking the system! Plus, Jake and Elwood are boys. So it will be nice to have some girl energy in the house, haha.
Now we get to do all the fun stuff, like pick out the perfect name, design her nursery, and buy her things! I get to have a little mini to style, and Dan gets to learn how to make a ponytail for school. I’m excited for all the fun we will have with baby girl, and how with every passing day our growing family becomes more real! She is already so loved.

A HUGE congratulations. Regardless of the sex, we all want healthy babies, but I too had hoped for a girl and was blessed with two. You will make a wonderful mama and you will have so much fun outfitting that little mini-you 🙂 As for your husband, well Logan learned how to do piggy tails, ponytails, how to have princess tea, and also enjoys teaching them to chop wood at the cabin, shoot a bow and arrow, play catch. Enjoy this special time and I am sure you are giddy with anticipation to meet your little one.

Roxanne, this is so exciting! It’s funny because I wanted only boys and that is just what I got! But of course, we are happy no matter the gender. Congratulations Roxanne and Dan! This is so exciting! I remember hearing my son’s heartbeat at 20 weeks and I am not a crier, I cried. It was all too surreal. I can’t wait to meet your little bundle!
