Staycation at The St Clair Hotel Chicago
Although we technically live in Chicago proper, it’s still nice to mix things up and stay little closer to the action from time to time! We were invited to do a little staycation at The St. Clair Hotel right off of Michigan Avenue, so we jumped at the opportunity!
The St. Clair Hotel is a Red Roof® brand boutique hotel and part of their Red Collection experiences. If you’ve heard of the Lord & Moris hotel in NYC, it is the same brand!
St Clair Hotel Chicago: A Unique Budget Hotel In The Perfect Location
I love exploring Chicago and all the hotels the city has to offer. The St. Clair Hotel is unique budget hotel because is right in the heart of the city, on St. Clair and Ontario, without the hefty price tag that you’d expect. Accessibility without the strain on your wallet! I love it. When we travel we like to keep our lodging costs low (like when we went to London) because we’d rather be out exploring and experiencing the city!
The first thing I noticed is the delicious smell of Garrett’s Chicago popcorn floating over from just across the street. I swear they pump the smell out their front door on purpose to entice us to go in there. If you haven’t had Garrett’s; it is the most delicious Chicago-style popcorn! A mix of caramel and cheese popcorn! Simply the best. The hotel is also within walking distance of a variety of the city’s most famous attractions: The Magnificent Mile with every store you could ever think of, the 360 Chicago Observatory (in the Hancock building), Navy Pier, Tribune Tower, The Chicago Theater and the Chicago Bean, just to name a few. Plus countless restaurants. Here are a few super close ones I would recommend:
- Bandera
- Eataly
- NoMi
- Hampton Social
- Ramen San
- Volare
- Timmy O’Toole’s
- Beatrice
- Lao Sze Schuan
Our St Clair Hotel Chicago Room
I noticed that the St Clair Hotel is very modern and sleek with smoke-free rooms (very important), free WiFi, flat screen TVs, a workspace with USB chargers, comfy beds, and coffee machines. We stayed in a king room, which was perfect for the three of us. We brought our Dock-A-Tot (a baby registry must have) but the hotel has pack and plays on reserve if you need one. I also like that there was a small refrigerator for putting any leftovers, baby bottles, or medications. And if you travel with your pet, The St. Clair allows one well-behaved pet, up to 45 lbs, per room.
Overall, we had a great staycation at The St Clair Hotel and would definitely recommend staying here if you’re looking for a unique budget hotel in a great location! We checked in, read Moo, Baa, Lalala about 5 times (Sidney’s favorite), went shopping, and had dinner at Bandera before popping back to the hotel room to feed Sidney. We finished off the night with some Garrett’s Popcorn and a stroll along Michigan Avenue. Not bad for a Friday!

I’ll definitely check this hotel out. We’re a few hours away from Chicago, I’ve been wanting to visit the city again and spend the night to make the most out of it. This sounds like a great place to stay at. Thanks for sharing! Oh, and the baby is such a cutie!!
