Thank you to Rodan + Fields for sponsoring this Rodan and Fields Redefine Regimen post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When I first started Glass of Glam back in December 2015, skincare + beauty was my bread and butter. I think back then I had more beauty posts than style posts! One of my goals this year is to bring the beauty topic back to the forefront, and I’m kicking it off with a review of the Rodan + Fields REDEFINE Regimen!
Rodan and Fields Redefine Regimen Review
I’m sure you’ve heard of Rodan + Fields. They’ve been around for a long time and have millions of devoted users. They’re known for being the first to provide skincare systems. Remember the Proactiv skincare system for acne? Yes – that was founded by the same two dermatologists, Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields before they started Rodan + Fields. It was revolutionary at the time because not only did it work, but the 3 step cleanse, tone, moisturize, system got teens to actually use the products. Fast forward to now, and 3 and 4 step skincare systems are pretty much the norm. But they had to start somewhere.
There’s a simple thought process behind the genius skincare system: if you really want to see results, you have to consistently use products that work together to treat whatever it is you’re seeking to improve. Over the years Rodan + Fields has expanded their line to include a number of effective skincare systems that encourage us to do just that.
For the past month and a half, I’ve been devoted to using the Redefine regimen – a routine specifically targeted towards anti-aging. It effectively reduces the appearance of fine lines + wrinkles and visibly improves the firmness of your skin! The REDEFINE Regimen is split into three steps for AM and PM: a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Depending on your skin type, you can customize each step to work in tandem with your personal complexion. I’ll explain more about that below! But for the purpose of this review and so you could get a full picture, I tried every product in the line. As a bonus, I also added in a fourth step: the new Redefine Muti-Function Eye Cream.
Redefine AM Regimen
Step 1: Redefine Daily Clay Cleanser
The choice here is between the Daily Clay Cleanser or the Daily Foaming Cleanser. Since I have oily skin, I opted for the clay cleanser on most days. The clay cleanser has little bits that gently exfoliate your skin, leaving you with a smooth, clean canvas first thing in the morning. The clay cleanser also doubles as a mask (thanks to the kaolin clay ingredient) if you need to dry out a pimple or feel like being extra fancy. It also contains ectoin and glycerol glycoside, which are both workhorses in anti-aging and boosting skin firmness.
However, I did find that the Daily Foaming Cleanser did a slightly better job of removing my makeup in the evenings (I’m lazy and don’t like to use makeup remover.) The foaming cleanser has Alpha Hydroxy Acids (you’ve probably heard of AHAs) that exfoliate the skin really well. So if you know your skin responds well to AHA’s I’d go with the foaming cleanser!
Step 2: Redefine Pore Refining Toner
I’m not a toner girl and have never been one. But I committed to this skincare routine, so I made myself use it! The Pore Refining Toner uses natural botanicals to exfoliate the skin and promote cell turnover. I think I might be a toner convert, now. My skin is so soft after toning, and my pores really do look smaller. Vitamin B3 gives you that youthful glow, and fruit acids smooth out your skin. I think it’s cool that one of the main ingredients is deep sea water – found in the Noirmoutier Island off the Atlantic coast of France! It is rich in natural minerals to help minimize the appearance of pores.
Step 3: Redefine Triple Defense Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Moisturizer
R+F says this lightweight moisturizing lotion + sunscreen nourishes skin while improving the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles + firmness while it protects against harmful UV rays. The alternative is a medium-weight cream. But again, I have pretty oily skin so I prefer something lighter during the day. It contains peptides to help visibly firm, grape extract to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles, and beet extract to really moisturize and plump the skin. I was a little worried that the SPF would clog my pores, but it didn’t at all. I use two pumps of the lotion on my face and neck in the morning and it keeps me feeling good!
I think this product is so smart because what’s the point of using all these great anti-aging products when you’re undoing it and then some with harmful UV rays? Sunscreen may be the extra magic in this Regimen, folks! SPF is the shower cap to your blowout, the topcoat on your no-chip mani, the roof over your head during a blizzard. Need more analogies? I think you get my point!
Step 4: Redefine Multi-Function Eye Cream
Eye cream is the cherry on top of my skincare routine. I pat it under my eyes with my ring fingers and it soaks right in. What it contains: Grape Extract to minimize the appearance of fine lines + deep wrinkles + helps visibly firm the skin. Daisy Flower Extract helps to nourish and brighten the eye area for a younger, refreshed appearance. And Vitamins C+F help strengthen the skin’s barrier and visibly firms around the eyes. Finally, Antioxidants protect against environmental aggressors. It definitely makes my delicate under-eye skin feel moisturized and look less puffy.
Redefine PM Regimen
Redefine Overnight Reparative Lotion
The only step that changes in my PM skincare regimen is step 3. I swap out the SPF moisturizer for the Overnight Reparative Lotion. The alternative choice is the Overnight Restorative Cream, which is a very rich nighttime moisturizer. If you feel like you need a rich night cream, I’d opt for the cream over the lotion. The key anti-aging ingredients are peptides, Retinal-MD, and Niacinamide (vitamin B3). Retinal-MD is unique to this product. It is a Retinoid blend containing Retinal. which is more potent than the Retinol you typically see in anti-aging products, and helps to visibly sculpt, define + lift. Not to geek out, but the Retinal-MD is encapsulated in calcium microspheres, which slowly release over time after you apply it. Why does that matter? It makes the product less irritating to the skin and more potent than Retinol, so you wake up with a better result.
I’m no stranger to Retinol, so I dove right in and started using this product every night after cleansing and toning. But if you’re new to retinol, it can be a potent product. I recommend easing into it by using it every two days, then every other day, and working your way up to every night. After just a week, I started to see a visible improvement in the texture of my skin.
Do I recommend The Redefine Routine?
Absolutely, yes! I give the Redefine Regimen 5 stars! The R+F hype is real and now I can see why. My skin was looking dull and tired and I was honestly considering Botox. Now, I wake up and see refreshed skin with an even tone and a reduction in the fine lines that were starting to haunt me.
The products are meant to last 60 days. You probably know this, but R+F has a 60-day money back satisfaction guarantee. After giving it a fair shake, if you still don’t like it, you can move on. The reality is that in order to see real results, you have to use a product consistently for 4-8 weeks. Quick fixes aren’t a realistic expectation. But Rodan + Fields gives you the time to actually see a result. As a full behind the scenes disclaimer, most skincare brands only give me 2 weeks before they want a review, even though I always ask for more time. But R+F insisted that I try the products for at least four weeks before giving my honest review. That’s integrity, people!
Have you tried the Rodan + Fields Redefine regimen? Are you excited to give them a whirl? Let me know in the comments!
