The Classic and Foolproof Moscow Mule

Moscow Mule | Glass of GlamOne of my absolute favorite cocktails is the classic Moscow Mule. I love the spiciness of the ginger, the sweetness of the ginger beer, and the refreshing lime squeeze. It is simply a heavenly combination. And you get to drink it out of a cool copper cup. I guess the vodka is just an extra bonus.

I think the perfect Moscow Mule comes down to the ginger beer. For this recipe I used Trader Joe’s because that’s what was convenient. But my absolute favorite is Fever Tree.

Making your own ginger simple syrup kicks it up a notch. It is super easy to make and you will have leftovers for next time…and next time. And probably the time after that too.

To make the ginger simple syrup:

Moscow Mule | Glass of Glam

Cut off a good sized knob of ginger, peel, and cut into small pieces.

In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water to a boil. Lower to a simmer and add the ginger. Stir it around and use a potato masher to macerate and muddle ginger in the concoction for about 5 minutes.

Strain out the ginger pieces. I saved mine to munch on later because I assumed they would taste like candy. We’ll see how that goes.

Making the Moscow Mule Cocktail:

Fill your copper cup with ice, and add 2-3 teaspoons of ginger syrup.

Squeeze 1/2 lime into the cup. I like mine extra lime-y.

Add 1-2 ounces of vodka. Top off with ginger beer, and garnish with lime!
