It has been a week since our vacation ended. Sad sad saddest face. I can already feel my tan fading by the minute. Sitting in the office at work, my tan is basically the only evidence that I even went on vacation, except for these fab photos, and my memories. Oh, and the sand that is still stuck in my ear buds. It makes me smile.
I am not sure if you know this, but I have a bachelor’s degree in zoology. No, I did not want to be a zookeeper. It is like biology but with more of an emphasis on animals, rather than microbiology and plants. Even though I don’t actively use my degree (besides trying to be a cat whisperer) I love animals.
So I desperately wanted to see a turtle at the beach. Apparently at night in Cancun, large sea turtles waddle their way onto the beach and lay eggs. People walk around the beach at night with flashlights and scoop up the eggs, and put them in designated areas so they are shielded from predators…and tourists.
We did not see any turtles (tortugas!) but we did see the pelicans swooping down into the ocean to catch fish. That’s what the second to last picture is; a little pelican on the water. They were SO cool. Pelicans are HUGE, and they are not very polite. They will scare the crap out of you by plunging straight into the water right where you are swimming. Which is really cool for me but not for a lot of my friends who have a massive distrust of birds.
I wore this maxi dress for a sunset stroll on the beach while pelican watching. I love maxi dresses, even though I am only 5’1″. I do what I want.
My maxi dress is old from an online boutique called Ruche.com. The shop kind of reminds me of a more affordable Anthropologie, which is fantastic! They almost went out of business, but the were revived because no one wanted to see them go. Pretty sweet!
