Now that little miss Sidney is 6 months old, we’ve totally got the hang of things! She already has so much personality, to the point where she has things we know she prefers. Here are ten of our favorite 6 month old baby must haves at the moment!
6 Month Old Baby Must Haves
1. Books! We’ve been reading books to Sidney since she was just a week old. Her face lights up when we pull out her favorite books. Our favorites are Moo, Baa, Lalala, the Touch and Feel Animals books, and she also loves books where you lift a flap to reveal something new, like Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings and Where is Baby’s Belly Button. |
2. Nuk PacifiersWe tried a bunch of different ones, but these are the one’s she likes the most. When she was tiny they were easiest for her mouth to hold onto, and they’re still the ones she prefers. We have a bunch of different colors! Some of them even glow in the dark. |
3. Sensory ToyWe have lots of toys, but Sidney is really enjoying this colorful ball one right now. She turns it over in her hands and is fascinated by all the colors and shapes. |
4. Car SeatWe really love our whole travel system, but the fact that Sidney likes it makes us love it even more! Our Mesa car seat is safe, cozy, and durable. We have the UppaBaby stroller base as well, and use it every single day. I realize it is a lot to spend on a stroller, but if you’re a city dweller like us, a sturdy stroller is a must have! Just getting her from the apartment downstairs to the car is a schlep, but the stroller makes it that much easier. We currently like the car seat rather than the bassinet, just because she is strapped in and can see the world a bit more in this posture. The undercarriage of the stroller is so big that I even use it for grocery shopping in lieu of a cart! |

5. Nanit Baby MonitorI’m so happy we have this monitor. Sidney probably doesn’t know that we can see her, but being able to see and hear her gives me peace of mind. The video goes straight to my phone so I don’t have to worry about carrying around another device. This monitor tracks the room’s temperature and humidity, so I know if I need to adjust the thermostat or humidifier in her room. There’s also an option to track her breathing, but we don’t use that feature. The handy camera is portable for travel, too! |
6. Hatch Sound MachineSidney sleeps with her sound machine every night. There are multiple sound and color combinations that we can adjust via an app on our phones. It also doubles as a night light, which came in handy when she needed night time feedings. |
7. Comotomo BottlesI’m still nursing, but BOY does Sidney love her evening bottle with her dad! I can tell she looks forward to it so much. After trying lots of bottle brands, we found she took to these the most. We’ve loved them for a long time, because I shared them in my newborn essentials post, too! (brb-crying looking at the photos from that post, she was so tiny!) She’s learning how to hold her own bottle now, and the squishyness of these bottles makes it easier to learn. I also just picked up these handles for $7 to help her hold the bottle herself. |
8. Olábaby SpoonsThese little spoons are so cute! They’re easy for her little hands to grab, and the silicone is fun to chew on. If you want to see Sidney eating, I share lots of cute videos of her on my Instagram stories! |
9. Play GymSidney has had her underwater-themed play gym since she was born. Now that her arms are long enough, she’s starting to really make the most of it. I can leave her in there while I start dinner, and she goes to town pulling on all the toys. The toys are detachable so you can take them on the go. She particularly enjoys the crab rattle. |
10. Honest DiapersAfter trying a lot of different diaper brands (about 5!) The Honest brand ended up being our favorite. They’re extremely absorbent, to the point where she doesn’t even cry when she needs to be changed. We’ve never had a leak, even overnight! The occasional diaper blowout does occur, but that’s truly inevitable no matter what brand you choose. As a plus, they come in really cute prints. I do the Honest subscription where they mail me enough diapers and wipes to last a month. The wipes are the best, too. They’re gentle enough that she’s never had a bad reaction, but durable enough to do the job! |
11. Bath Tub LoungerOkay, so I said 10 favorites but I’m including one more. Babies like and need a lot of things! Anyway, Sidney loves bath time and I attribute much of her enjoyment to this bath tub lounger. It submerges her and lets her relax, since she can’t quite sit on her own without toppling over yet. She really likes these bath toys, too, which are made out of recycled plastic milk jugs. They’re super cute. |
Any of these would make a great gift for a new baby up to a 6 month old and perhaps beyond! Sidney is a really happy girl and I’m thrilled she loves the products that we use every day!
