Staying healthy is hard, especially when you have food weaknesses like mine. Giving up wine, ice cream, and pasta is damn near impossible, but I’m sharing some of the more healthy food swaps I like to make at the grocery store!

Grocery shopping can be rough, especially when there is so much temptation to get things that are bad for me. I try to find things that are similar to my favorites, but are a healthier version. There are a few easy healthy food swaps I’ve been making to keep myself happy and satisfied.
1.La Croix Water. I love fizzy water, especially La Croix. When I come home and crave a glass of wine, I usually grab a can of fizzy water and put some in a wine glass. Most of the time I’m just looking for a different flavor or texture beverage since I drink water all day at work. If I still want wine after the water, then at least I’ll be extra hydrated. My favorite flavor is peach-pear!
2.Enlightened Ice Cream. Ice cream is my favorite food of all time. Except I can’t justify the calories and sugar multiple times a week. Enlightened is really smooth and delicious and comes in so many flavors! My favorites are cookie dough and peanut butter chocolate. Halo top is a great choice, too.
3.Siete Tortillas. These come in both almond and coconut flour versions! I love making wraps for all three meals with these. You can also cut them up and bake them for some gluten free chips!
4.Quinoa. This is a really good option instead of pasta or rice. It has a lot more protein than other carby meal bases, and I actually prefer it.
5.Cauliflower. If you’re a mashed potatoes girl or need rice with your stir fry, this tip is for you. If you steam some cauliflower then put it in the food processor to make it really smooth with about a tablespoon of butter, you won’t be able to tell that it isn’t mashed potatoes. You can also find pre-riced cauliflower in the frozen section, and swap it for rice!
Do you have some easy, healthy food swaps you like to make? I love hearing other people’s grocery shopping secrets!

p.s. – I wrote these a long time ago, but here are my favorite things to get from Trader Joe’s, as well as my favorite healthy foods.

Great suggestions. I have to, like right now, look these wraps up on Amazon. Since I mostly eat a GF diet that’s the one thing I’ve missed the most, is wraps. Thanks for the tip. I also like the bubbly water in a wine glass idea, because I too like a little change and boy do I like the feel of a wine glass in my hand. LOL.

We’ve been trying to look at ingredients more and more, and stay away from added sugar as much as possible. Or at least stay away from ingredients we can’t pronounce and don’t know what they are…ha ha!!!

I keep trying to make myself like La Croix, but so far I’m doing a lousy job. My husband loves plain seltzer water?Halo Top is my fav ice cream alternative. I know some of the other varieties are great too, but since it has both a good amount of protein and fiber, I’m true to it. Yes to quinoa and cauliflower. Great post and you look cute! XO
Roxanne says
Not everyone is into the fizzy! Sometimes a little lemon in your water is a nice change, too! Halo top is tasty and I like that they have a lot of dairy-free flavors.

Flavored water is my favorite treat! I get it all the time and it helps curb my snacking and makes me feel like I am treating myself even though there are no calories! Win win!

Roxanne, this outfit and those shoes are freaking fantastic! I love, love, love it from head to toe! And such a great post, too. I do love quinoa but apparently I am the only one in my house who likes it, so I don’t keep it on hand often. I guess I should give it a try again. It’s been a while.

These are pretty photos! Love all the colors jumping at me! Your OTS top is so pretty and I like how you paired it with white jeans. It’s so crisp and cool! I also love food and have been trying to do my best not to fall in the junk food trap but I have to say it’s hard. I have more of a salty and crunchy palate and love chips but we know one bag of Lays potato chips and you are a goner! Lol So I have found granola to be a good alternative to satisfy with the crunch. It’s also a big help staving off my hunger. I hope you had a great weekend and wishing you a great week ahead!

Roxanne says
Aw thanks Maureen! I’m with you – having any kind of chips or junk in the house is just dangerous for me because I will eat it all in one sitting. Granola is a great option!
