The sunny months are coming. The days are longer, and I long for every moment I can spend outdoors. I even try to squeeze in a couple of walks around the block during the workweek just so I can get some fresh air and enjoy the weather.
If you’re like me, you have a skin demon and a skin angel sitting on each shoulder:
Skin Demon: It’s summer! You need to be TAN! Bare that skin and get some color, woman.
Skin Angel: Where’s your hat!? Girlfriend, you use a retinol cream and if you don’t protect your skin your face is going to look like leather.
I’m always torn, but the scaryness of damaging my skin has been winning the battle more often than not. I’m increasingly concerned about things like sunspots and sunburns that can dramatically alter the delicate skin on my face.
I asked my dermatologist how often she thinks one should reapply sunscreen, and she said that every time I go outside for a walk, I should put more on. If I’m outside for an extended period of time, every 2 hours.
But WAIT, EW! I’m going to have to ruin my make up to re-apply goopy sunscreen every time I go for a walk? That’s just not realistic, and I honestly don’t know any person who does that.
Luckily for my skin, I found this SPF makeup setting/sunscreen spray. It’s called the Kate Somerville UncompliKated SPF50 Makeup Setting Spray. It gives me a sheet veil of SPF and also makes my makeup look matte. I have been LOVING IT. I just keep it in my bag and give my face a spritz when I’m going to be in the sun. No leather face for me, please.
Another good one is the Colorscience SPF Mineral Powder. It comes in a little brush applicator that’s also perfect for tossing in your bag.
I know I should probably refrain from smiling when I spray this on, but I couldn’t help myself. And just so you know, the spray doesn’t taste to terrible either. HAHA.
All joking aside, it is really important to use a sunscreen and get yourself a cute hat for outdoor jogs. Once you find a sunscreen you really like and you get into the habit of using it every day, then it won’t be a struggle to remember. I swear by the EltaMD SPF 44 tinted moisturizer in the morning, then reapply sunscreen with the Kate Somerville Spray. Another one I used to use and like a lot is the Image sunscreen (because it smells like lemon cake).
Also as an FYI, the outfit I’m wearing is something I typically wear to work. I know I don’t usually show my work outfits on here, so here you go! I think I wear this striped top once a week I love it SO much.
Thank you to Kate Somerville and Shoppinglinks for supporting this post.

Love that you showed us a typical work outfit. It is so classic and chic and you look beautiful in your spraying photos. I just got Vivian a kids sun protection and it is a light spray. Need to get one for me.

I’m so happy you like the outfit, Ada! I need to be better about reapplying sunscreen during the day, and this stuff makes it much easier.

Ohhh this spray sounds great! I tried a similar sunscreen setting spray by supergoop last year but I wasn’t 100% in love with the rosemary it had in it. This one looks like a nice fine mist too, and anything that can help keep my makeup in place is aokay in my book.

I love this idea! It doesn’t break down your makeup? (BTW: I love this work outfit too!)

I fight with my skin demon and skin angel all the time. As I am getting older I see the damage the sun has done and I try to be diligent with my SPF. I love spray sunblock, the application is just so much easier. LOVE this look, the stripes and pops of red are gorgeous!

Sounds like excellent product. I would not mind using it because I love taking of my skin. By the way I love your look especially those shoes!

Such a cute outfit, Roxanne! I love the pop of red on your shoes and the interior of your bag, too cute! I’m in the same boat as you, I’d like nice tan skin but I also don’t want to do any damage! I reapply SPF as often as I can but really don’t like what the sprays do to my face/make up. I’ll have to check out the Kate Somerville SPF on my next Sephora run, everything else I’ve bought from that brand has been fab! xx Rox-Anne
