My New Mom Morning Routine
Heading Out With A Newborn
Before Sidney was born (already almost 6 weeks ago, AH!) we decided that we wanted to take advantage of Dan’s paternity leave as a family of three. Even though we’ve been in Chicago for almost 2 years, we put off all the Chicago must-have destinations that are now collecting dust on our bucket list. Why? Because they’re expensive and crowded on the weekends! I don’t like crowds and I don’t like spending money for a museum that I’m not sure I will like.
Since Dan is on leave, having the weekdays free is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of all the museum’s free days! Illinois residents get in free on random week days depending on the museum. That’s totally inconvenient for anyone with a job. But since we are free these days, we’re heading out! So far we’ve been to the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, and the Adler Planetarium. We still have to hit up the art museums!
The New Mom “Getting Ready” Routine
I admit, getting out of the house with a newborn is tough because she isn’t really on a schedule. She eats, sleeps, and needs to be entertained at her own pace. When I’m lucky, I can pop her in her swing and take a quick shower. I slap on some light makeup, put a little styling cream in my hair, and throw together a quick outfit. Long gone are the days when I can take my time applying makeup, styling my hair, and trying on outfits…unless Dan is around to help.
I wore this bohemian dress for our baby announcement photos, and I’m still loving it as we start to get cooler days in Chicago. It comes in so many gorgeous colors – I really love the antique peach color. And although the price tag is a big large, I assure you I’ve gotten my cost per wear (omg I was so skinny and young) on it! Here’s one I found that is similar and costs way less, although it only comes in black, and another similar dupe! The dress is really easy to put on and feel put together without much fussing, and there are buttons in front that make it nursing-friendly!
Would you go out and about with a newborn? The trick is to get ready quickly, and don’t be scared! If you’re prepared then nothing can go wrong.

Sidney is such a cutie! I remember how hard it was to get out with Isobel when she was a baby, she cried so much! Now she loves going shopping with me! I love your dress, you look amazing!

what great adorable photos! Sidney is such a sweet little muchkin and the dress is beautiful!
That dress is just darling! I love the boho feel of it. Sidney is just adorable and I love her little yawn. I took my babes out as a newborn because I did not want to be stuck inside the house. I think you just have to do what you feel comfortable with!

Thank you for the link up!
Hope that you had a great weekend! 🙂
That’s a cute dress. They’re a really great, easy thing to wear post baby. It’s great feeling to start getting out of the house again with the baby isn’t it?
Roxanne, you look amazing in this gorgeous red dress! And how stinking adorable is Sidney in that little leopard outfit. A fashion blogger in the making! I hope you are enjoying every moment of your husband’s maternity leave…it is such a great thing to have him home with you for a few weeks.

Sidney is so cute and adorable! Love the picture of her yawning. Such a classic baby move! 🙂 I am always drawn to boho vibes and your dress has me hypnotized. The color, the embroidery and the movement – all key ingredients! I think it’s awesome that you and Dan are taking advantage of the free days. It’s definitely a bit more challenging with a newborn but well worth it, experience wise. I was able to do the same with my son and though those earlier days had their own fair share of difficulty, I can say I learned a lot more about motherhood that way than staying inside the house. Happy Monday and wishing you a good weekend ahead!
