I haven’t always liked cats. I’ll tell you a little story about how 5 years ago I basically became a cat lady overnight.

It is no surprise that I love cats. I have two at home, Jake and Elwood, and they are super cool and sweet. If you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories, you already know that my furry boys make frequent appearances. Jake is the gray and white one with the angel face, and Elwood is the all gray one with the bitchy resting face.
I always loved dogs and hated cats. Shocking, I know! I grew up with a dog and never had good experiences with cats. Dan and I lived in an apartment when I was finishing up law school and I was just gearing up to start studying for the Ohio bar exam. As a lifelong animal lover, I knew that I really wanted a pet but I couldn’t fairly devote the time and energy it took into training a good dog. So for my law school graduation gift, Dan took me to the shelter (with my friend and resident cat expert Cait) and we scooped up Jake and Elwood when they were 2 months old.
I had never had a cat before, so learning their mannerisms and kitty-ways was a huge learning experience for me. I remember once Elwood was purring so loudly I called the vet because I thought something was wrong with him! Now they’re my best buddies and I’m officially drinking the cat lady cool-aid.
Lucky for me, being a cat lady has become super trendy. There is so much cute kitty merchandise every where you look! I chose this subtle cat clutch for my outfit today, and I probably used one of my several cat mugs to drink my coffee this morning.
My friends and family know my tendencies, so they like to buy me cat-themed gifts. I have soo much cat stuff (oven mitts, dish towels, salt and pepper shakers, shoes, socks, even a vase) but alas I always want more.
As a side note, having two fluffy cats means SO much fur. I have lint rollers all over the house and vacuum on the regular, but it is all in the name of love. Sometimes I have to chase #husbandofglam around the house with a lint roller to get all the fur off before he goes to work! The coated denim I’m wearing today doesn’t collect fur as much as regular pants and jeans, which I am SO THANKFUL for. If you have pets that don’t have the word “doodle” in their breed I know you feel me.
Here are some more amazing kitty finds I’m obsessing over. I really need this tank (which is under $4), this lucky cat clutch, these socks, and these pajamas.
Hope you have an amazing weekend!

p.s. – I’m not exactly sure of Jake and Elwood’s breed, but I think they are a Maine Coon mix. They have the breed’s behaviors and characteristics, such as greeting you at the door, the fluff between the toes, a mane, they’re quite large (18 lb each), super fluffy, and a goofy way of demanding of attention. Elwood will look me in the eye and meow at me if I am ignoring him!

That’s so funny. I am totally a fog person and Tanner is my favorite sidekick, apart from the girls that is. However the right cat could totally steal my heart. I’ve met a lot I’ve totally loved and ones I could leave behind. Looks like yours are pretty great.

I’m a fan of both cats and dogs, but cats will always be my #1. My blog name is even my cats names! Love your cats names! That bag is adorable, too.

I loved this story Roxanne. I totally laughed that you called the vet with the purring. I grew up with cats but they were outside cats. So when Rob & I inherited our first Maine Coon (yours are definitely at least part Maine Coon) we ended up calling the vet because he’d throw up (hair balls, you know). We laugh about it to this day!!
Have a great weekend!!

Haha – I thought all the throwing up was normal, since my boys are constantly grooming themselves. I guess my knowledge of cats is skewed based on my own experience!
