I wore this fun striped shift dress to work, then straight to an after work event. If it isn’t obvious to you by now, I love shift dresses for work. See here, here, and here for some work wear inspiration.

What you ‘re looking at today is my basic work uniform. I dress with a belt and flats, or heels if I’m feeling fancy. I walk everywhere in DC so comfortable flats are an absolute must.
This red and white shift dress didn’t come with the belt. I just used my own to cinch the waist a bit. I absolutely LOVE skinny belts for the way they can completely change the shape of a dress or top. I’m going to have to try to add belts to the rest of my shift dresses to see how the look dramatically changes.
I DID find a seller on ebay where you can get any color skinny belt for under $2. I actually just ordered the leopard one for the fall!
Check out some more work dresses I’ve worn this summer below, and some others I wouldn’t mind adding to my closet! I especially love this one for the laser cut details. Most of these would look awesome belted!

What a great dress! I would totally wear this outfit to work. Thanks for the inspiration
What a cute dress. I love the bright orange with the colorblocked stripes. I agree the necklace and belt make the sheath much more perfect. Thanks for sharing that eBay link too. I am a huge fan of skinny belts and have several ones already (earlier this year I lucked out on finding some at Clearance at Old Navy) but could use more, like in red, fuchsia, silver, pink, turquoise, royal blue and kelly green.

Thank you! That’s true – if it ain’t broke….!
That dress is beautiful, perfect for work and after work too 🙂 The cobalt belt is the perfect colour with it 🙂

Thanks, Mica! I just so happened to have a cobalt belt! I might be the only person in the world with that solution, haha.

That dress is darling, work appropriate, AND flattering! Three things that are hard to find all at once!
That’s true, Lauryn. We usually sacrifice color at work for fear that it wouldn’t be appropriate. I always keep a cardigan or a blazer nearby for unexpected outings.

Love that dress on you! Also thank you for posting fun work wear! Corporate world can get soooooo mundane!
Thanks so much! That’s so true. I remember wearing my same boring slacks with a button down every day until I realized it was not necessary.
