“Oh, those millennials and their selfies. When will they just get over themselves!?” I know what you’re thinking, but millennial habits aren’t all that bad. Some are straight up rumors, some are undeniably true, and sometimes even admirable!

Let’s talk about the obvious: I changed my website around! After over 2 years with the same look, it was time for an update. I finally have the beautiful category pages I always wanted (go click on the drop-down menus to see) and a lot of other cool features! We are still working out a few details, but I’m so happy with how it turned out!
Since I was born in 1988, that makes me a millennial. If you were born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s, that makes you one, too. As a group, we generally do some things differently that are quite humerous!
Silly Things About Millennials:
1.We love taking selfies. So much that our selfie obsession has become contagious.
2. We don’t mind paying a lot of money for healthy food. There is this mushroom coffee by Four Sigmatic that is all the rage right now. Millennials will drop $40 for 3 weeks worth of the stuff. To us, healthy and trendy food is like a religion.
3. We love sharing our opinions. Especially by broadcasting them on twitter.
4. We photograph our food. Don’t you DARE take a sip of that latte art or I’ll throw shade at you so hard. In this vein, if there is an instagrammable bar or space in the city then we will flock to it! I’ve even heard of some people who will buy the crazy ice cream concoction, photograph it, then throw it away!
5. We’re nostalgic about the 80’s. Even though most of us didn’t really have a consciousness then.
6.We speak in emoji and abbreviations. IRL, BRB, omg, yas, insert emoji of crying face to indicate that this is so cute/funny, hilarious that I am crying or laughing.
7. Splurging on ridiculous things that we think are important. I was recently in a facebook group where one millennial was asking the group to help her decide which crystal-infused water bottle to purchase. I looked both of them up, and they were $80 and $90 dollars. Crystal-infused water, though? Apparently we will do anything that a friend recommends that sounds even remotely satisfying.
8. Totally different news outlets. We get most of our news from Twitter.
9. Everything is “goals”. hair goals, relationship goals, dad bod goals.
10. Our phones are like extensions of our arms. Forgetting to bring your phone with you to sit on the toilet is probably the worst thing that could ever happen.
11. Uber is our saviour. Driving ourselves, taking a cab, or hiring a car services is just unnecessary.
12. We go out of our way to avoid talking to people. For instance, we prefer to book our dinner reservations, doctor’s appointments, hair appointments, etc. online. if there is a self check out line, we will be in it. If I want to order takeout, I do it via an online form. Picking up the phone and talking to a human is just too much. I’d rather have my tech issue resolved quickly via SMS.
13. If something is hard to get and exclusive then we will travel high, low, near, and far to get it. It is nice that McDonalds is on every corner, but that’s not sexy. We want that burger from Au Cheval that is only served in one location and you have to wait all day long to get it. If Au Cheval was a burger pop-up shop that only lasted for 4 weeks, then that’s even more enticing. The more exclusive, the better.
14. On the flip side, there’s a fine balance between exclusive and being elitist. We want all of our friends to be happy and included. If a brand doesn’t carry plus sizes or they put salacious sayings that offend groups on a tshirt, we will flee in the other direction.
15. Sometimes we live double lives. What you see on Instagram isn’t always what you get in real life. With Instagram, Instagram stories, Facebook, and other social media outlets, we can easily pick and choose what moments you see. We’re masters of illusion.
Are you a millennial? There are so many companies that conduct tons of research on us in order to be more popular with our millennial generation! I personally think most of these are true, for better or for worse.

I’m toward the end of Gen X but can definitely identify with a lot of these things, especially the nostalgia for the 80s! Cute shots too—love the bed jumping (looks like it was fun)!

I am right on the cusp of this. I find myself in this category at times but also not. I was born in ’82 (I know I’m showing my age) but some of these I totally identify with and others no. I grew up without a cell phone or computer in my house. I remember seeing both for the first time. 🙂 Love your pics!

This made me laugh! I can definitely relate to some of them! Thankfully I would never drop $80 for a crystal infused water bottle though!

These are such fun pictures and that dress looks great on you. I think you nailed millennials on the head. LOL By definition my kids (born in 1995/1997) are both millennials and I can definitely see some of these qualities in each of them. I feel like all blogger fall into the selfie category though, so I guess we could be called mini-millennials? HA Happy Monday Roxanne!! XO

Website and you look great!
Many of these definitely apply to me. The one that bothers me and I am trying to change is the phone as an extension of my arm. Up until 3 years ago, I didn’t really have a cell phone, not one that took pictures, or was worth texting on, and certainly not one that had apps on it. 3 years later, the phone goes everywhere and it actually bothers me. My little one even says to us, no phones. So lately during their waking hours, I am trying to put the phone in the drawer and not use it nearly as much. It’s hard because I am addicted. So sad because documenting means you aren’t fully in t he moment, and being immersed in a moment solidifies it into a memory. Just something I am trying to figure out.

I am at the tail end of Gen X, so I display behaviors of both Gen X and Millennials. I think I exhibit all of your above millennial behavior. 🙂 Fun post!

It’s super fun to read this Roxanne. And I think it’s better for us older ones to embrace the new ways the younger kids are doing it….then we have more fun!!

Fun photos and your post had me shaking my head in agreement! While I missed being a millennial by one year, I can relate to some of the things you said. But with each generation we have pro’s and cons and like you said, for better or worse, it is what it is.

I laughed at a lot of this list – I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who does everything on the list (speaking as a millenial!) I do recognise some habits of mine and my friend’s on the list though! 🙂
Thank you for the link up!
Hope that you had a lovely weekend and you’re having a good start to your week 🙂

I’m not a millennial but I enjoyed the 80’s 😉 I recognize most of the things your are listing here … I think as old and wise (ahum) people we have learn to take the best and only the best of everything … generations or trends and I think I can be happy to be born in the 70 than later!
beautiful colorful dress and shoes by the way 😉
