How Leopard Fashion Got Me Out of a Creative Slump
Michelle and I were at my place on a cold day shooting some content and flipping through magazines for inspiration. I can get obsessed with finding the perfect shoot location for an outfit. Which, quite frankly, made me kind of sad that day. Mainly because when we shoot with Sidney around we can’t really run all over town like we used to. Especially in the Chicago cold. Sidney was taking a nap, and we had already shot looks in my kitchen, living, room, and front hallway. I was feeling kind of stuck.
We came to a page in a magazine that featured style trendsetters, and one man was totally peacocking in the brightest colors and coolest accessories. Michelle pointed out that since his outfits were so eye catching, it didn’t matter where the outfit was shot. No one is paying attention to the location – we are zeroed in on the amazingness that are his fashion choices.
So on a whim, I went into my closet and pulled out my leopard fashion favorites: a shirtdress ($19 by the way), headband, and leopard heels. I thought “If we can’t go anywhere, then we are shooting something loud in a boring place…my stairwell.” So we popped out to the stairwell and took some fun shots that feel larger than life. That day taught me that creativity doesn’t have to be a solo endeavor. Your friends and collaborators are there to help, brainstorm, and make you think of things in different ways. I’m so thankful for that!

Yes content creation is not as easy as it looks and definitely more challenging with a baby in tow. I am so glad that you and Michelle were able to find inspiration together. It’s so nice when you have someone to talk to about ideas and making it come to life. I love leopard so hands down I am dying over your photos and outfit!

These are great shots! Michelle was right – it’s the outfit that’s the eye catcher; not the location. And that is definitely an eye-catching outfit. You look fabulous! Actually, the stair shots are really awesome. What a cool perspective!

Since we moved into an apartment in September, the stairway ends up being a convenient place to shoot photos. Bonus, the lighting is indirect. You look smashing in all of your leopard–the dress is amazing!

These shots came out so beautiful and fun, too! I love all the leopard and the burgundy accents are so perfect. You look amazing, my friend! I am so glad that you are embracing mommyhood in style and finding wonderful ways to compromise! I wish you all the best in the new year!

Such fun pictures. I love the stairwell idea, I’ve done that before. It can be tricky to get sizing right, but the photos look great.

What a fun dress and it’s nice you got inspired to try take photos in a different location 🙂 I just take all my photos in the yard with the kids and dogs watching me, haha! Often impatiently if I’m taking the boys out to the park – i snap a pic of what I’m wearing each day before I leave!
Thank you for the link up!
Hope that you are having a great weekend 🙂 We are safe from the bushfires still, and so thankful.
