I can’t pretend like I don’t spend time scrolling through Instagram looking at my favorite Influencer’s pages. I oftentimes find myself thinking “wow – how do some of these influencers do that!?” So, quite recently, I decided to step up my game.

I started blogging because I love being creative and and connecting with you over our love of fashion, beauty, and lighthearted fun. After a couple of years of creating content, I found myself discontented with my average outfit posts and ho hum words describing what I am wearing and why I am wearing it. Don’t get me wrong, I have posts and photos that I am extremely proud of, but I think I have recently lost some steam and forgot why I started in the first place.
To regain some inspiration, I looked at the Instagram pages and blogs of bloggers I admire and look up to, and it finally struck me what I was missing. And that was two things: 1) my sense of fun and creativity and 2) the self confidence to let my personality shine through and to believe that I am capable of mind-blowing creative work. Since Michelle (my photographer) and I made the decision to step up my game, I’ve been focusing on honing my brand in these two areas.
BLOGGING TIPS TO STEP UP YOUR GAME
Re-Discover My Creativity
My favorite bloggers find a way to make the mundane parts of life seem fun and interesting. The reason that I love them is because they are dynamic, creative, and larger than life. Do people really take baths with rose petals and boatloads of candles? No! But do I want to see creativity and inventiveness when I look at a photograph? Yes absolutely! Their intuition on what looks and feels good is so inspiring, and leaves me checking their blogs to see what they come up with next.
I know I can do that, too! I love taking outfit photos, but years of doing the regular “stand and pose” has dwindled my excitement for style blogging. To the point where I only posted once a week for almost 3 months straight. My goal is to shoot while doing things that capture my surroundings, personality, and lifestyle.
Stepping Up My Self Confidence
Do you ever look at a particular Instagram feed and realize it is so perfect that you feel badly about yourself? Guilty. I constantly put myself down, thinking that I am forever a “D list” blogger who isn’t going anywhere and isn’t noticed. Why do I do that to myself? It is utter garbage.
I know I’m not perfect, and I won’t try to be. But I know that I have something to offer. I’m a city-girl with a goofy personality and an unnatural love for lipstick. But I wasn’t letting that shine through because I was afraid that the world wouldn’t like it. I found myself conforming to what I thought everyone wanted me to be/look like rather than just doing what I do best.
In order to take steps towards your goals a little pep talk is in order. Once I punched the devil on my shoulder (and believe me I’m still punching her sometimes) I stopped the debilitating talk of “I’m not pretty enough be noticed, I’m not skinny enough to wear that, I’m not smart enough to learn photography.” I keep telling myself… “I’m AM creative enough to scout locations, I AM articulate enough to pitch brands, and I CAN produce content that people will come back to see.” So far flipping the script has made the world of difference.
The rest, my friends, is logistics. The new and dynamic Glass of Glam is here and I’m proud that you’re coming along for the ride.

My favorite look from last week’s linkup is Emma from Style Splash!
I love that her outfit was inspired by the quote/phrase “after the rain comes the rainbow.”
Aren’t we all feeling optimistic for rainbows and happy days? Emma’s bright and colorful outfit certainly makes me smile! Check out Emma’s blog for more fun, colorful, and affordable outfits.

I want to read all of your blog posts! I loved this one. I’m definitely going through this right now. It’s been discouraging lately especially because when everyone else seems to be killing it in the blog/instagram game.
Thanks for the reminder lady!

I think your new resolve is awesome Roxanne! I think you are right that it’s too easy to slip into routine outfit photos, lose a sense of creativity, and feel like you are lost in the crowd. I think these photos are fun and adventurous, and I’m excited to see more of that!

I am very much the same, Roxanne, in that I am perennially questioning myself, my so-called marketability, and whether anyone is in the least bit interested in listening to what I have to say. I oscillate between loving the feeds of influencers I admire to being drowned and taken over by envy, pure and green 🙂 it’s not easy. I’m too old. I’m too muscular. I’m not mainstream. I don’t do pretty or cute or girly. I speak my mind, and often on topics many others avoid. But, thankfully, for the most part, I like being me. I like my particular brand of quirk. I was telling another lovely friend that we don’t have to appeal to everyone, we only need to find kindred spirits, and that’s precisely what you’re doing so kudos to you, beautiful. Once you own who you are, only good things can come your way. I can’t wait to see what you’ll be serving up on the blog from hereon xoxo

I am 100% for doing the things you love and once it doesn’t feel like that anymore either readjust or move on. You go girl. Over the past 8 months of following you, I feel like you can do anything you set your mind to and I am going to be in awe of it. Have fun and enjoy yourself.

Girl, I can relate to this post so much because I’ve been feeling the same way. I’m still learning how to be confident in myself and along the way, I feel like I’ve lost my fun, creative spirit to mundane everyday tasks. You look amazing and I always love your posts! So glad that you are doing what makes you happy and what allows you to shine! <3

Interesting post! I’ve read already many of this kind but yours has a different angle I think. Self confidence is not easy to get but there are way to learn 😉 Many people probably think I have too much but in fact I know myself and that’s key … know your limits and then decide if you want to expand 😉 Your pictures are great … if you want them more original and creative it’s a good idea to look around you but please don’t become a copycat as this is a big risk … losing your own identify by wanting to be like ‘others’

Well you totally made me smile!!! These are such fun photos and yay for you for stepping out and doing a different style of photos than you did once upon a time. I love them. I know what you mean about feeling like a D lister. Why do we have to compare ourselves. #women The jumpsuit is darling. I’ve been looking for one and picked one up at Old Navy this weekend. If it doesn’t work out, I might try the poppy colored one like yours. Have a great day!!!XOXO

good for you, we all need to re-evaluate and show ourselves. I fell in to the trap of trying to have that serious pouty look and it was so not me. I am back to goofy pictures of me but at least I am happy

Yes I totally agree! It’s hard not to compare when scrolling through IG. After all, everyone is showcasing their best of the best. But I do believe that doing you and remembering who you are is best in this type of situation. It’s easier to conform but harder to stand out and I believe we are all here to offer one another a different perspective on life, fashion and how we see the world. I love the new Glass of Glam! Beautiful jumpsuit and love this color. You got this!
