Everyone’s talking about clean beauty products when it comes to skincare and makeup. I realize that with the pandemic most of us are shirking makeup all together. But most days I still like to put something on my face to highlight my features, especially for a FaceTime or Zoom call.
When Sidney was born, something clicked in me that made me want to use more clean products. The first thing I switched was my deodorant, and I’m so happy with the switch that I’ve been slowly dabbling in clean makeup, too. My face is always touching hers, mostly because I can’t resist kissing those cheeks, but she also likes to rest her head on mine when I hold her. So that’s why I decided that cleaner makeup is probably a good idea.
I came across a beauty website called Follain that only carries clean beauty products. Each product they carry undergoes a strict and relentless approval process. The products are researched, reviewed for toxic ingredients, and tested to ensure that only the cleanest, safest and most effective products are approved. I had so much fun perusing all the new-to-me brands and decided to test out a few products that are now part of my simple and clean makeup routine.
My Simple Clean Beauty Routine
Step One: Even Out The Skin
Instead of using a heavy duty foundation, I apply my skincare products, then even out any redness, under eye circles, and blemishes with RMS Beauty Un Cover-Up. It is a lightweight concealer-foundation hybrid that hydrates and covers in one fell swoop. I dab this on with my finger in any areas that need a little love.
Step Two: Cheeks and Lips
I like to alternate between two products. Ere Perez Lip and Cheek Tint is a beautiful product that’s made from beetroot. Vitamin E and antioxidants nourish your skin while the tint gives you the perfect flush. I have the color “joy”, a cheery red, but I also really want to try “fun” which is a fuchsia pink. A little goes a long way, so I dab a bit on my cheeks with the applicator, then swipe some on my lips, and rub both in with my fingers.
I also love the RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek. Illusive is a plummy rose that also looks great on your hairline, and Beloved is perfect a poppy red that makes your lips look like you were just eating a cherry popsicle. It’s super moisturizing on the lips too.
Yes, I’m obsessed with RMS Beauty, but I promise you will be, too. RMS Beauty Magic Luminzer is exactly what they say it is – magic. It isn’t like some of those crummy highlighters that look chalky and cheap. A dab of Magic Luminzier on your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, and high points of your eyebrows make you glow like an angel.
Step 3: Brows
Bushy, imperfect brows are in. I’ve been working on growing mine out and the less I do to them, the more I like them. Ilia Essential Brow Gel is hands down the best brow gel I’ve used. The hold is flexible while still keeping my brow hairs in place. Ilia’s formula contains sunflower seed oil, shea butter, and aloe, which keeps your brows healthy and conditioned. I noticed the holes my brows have suffered from over-plucking have started to fill in once I started using this gel!
Step 4: Mascara
As a self-proclaimed mascara expert, I’m a tough cookie when it comes to mascara. I figured I had to try a clean mascara in order to be a full expert. Saie Mascara 101 is conditioning and buildable with none of the flaky nonsense. I like how soft and fluttery my lashes feel when I use it! I like my lashes really obnoxiously long, so I put on 3 coats. The formula and applicator do a great job of separating and lengthening without feeling like a clumpy mess.
I’m so happy with my streamlined, clean makeup routine that takes 7 minutes! I’ll be doing a demonstration on my Instagram on how I use each product, soon! I never thought that clean beauty products could be as effective and obsession-worthy as conventional makeup, but I was so incredibly wrong. I’m absolutely hooked and my skin has never looked better. I hope this post gives you an idea of where to start in your own clean beauty journey! Give one or all of these products a shot!
Follain is having a pre-Memorial Day sale from 5/19-5/21! Certain products will be 15% off, so make sure you get a discount on what you want to try! They carry all of these products, plus even more clean beauty brands what specialize in skincare, beauty, and and even hair products.

I don’t wear a lot of makeup just eyeliner and concealer most days but I do like to put eyeliner and mascara on special days like weekends when we have plans! Since quarantine I haven’t put anything on my face and I know that places are starting to reopen so I probably should update my mascara and eyeliner! Is Saie waterproof?

I’ve been going more natural with skin care, but haven’t tried the make up yet…it’s the next thing on my list. Thanks for the recommendation.

I like the sound of the Saie mascara, I might order some when I start to run low. I’ve just bought some natural deodorant but haven’t used it yet…fingers crossed it’s up to the job!

How smart to investigate the clean beauty products. It seems like we’ve come full circle on those. Thanks for the tip on brow gel. My brows have a mind of their own!

It’s nice you have a routine and products that work for you 🙂 I haven’t even been wearing my BB cream at home, just doing my usual cleanse and moisturise – although I do wear my BB cream when we will be outside for a while as it has SPF in it 🙂
Thanks for the linkup!
