One of the best times of year in DC is the Cherry Blossom Festival. For two weeks the city is in full bloom, especially around the Tidal Basin near the Jefferson Memorial. With work and travel it was a struggle to get down there to see the spectacle. The crowds are ridiculous on the weekends, so driving is not really an option. We decided to walk down at sunset to enjoy the cherry blossoms with less crowds and in a different light.
This week’s refreshment is the espadrille. I love them because they are fun and casual, but come in all shapes and sizes. Historically, an espadrille features a fabric upper part and a jute rope sole. The jute rope makes the sole particularly flexible. While the shoe is practical and has a long history, it is now a popular choice because it is comfortable and stylish.
If you’re thinking of getting a new pair of sandals for spring and summer, look no further. Espadrilles are definitely the way to go, especially because you can find them in so many fun styles and colors. And because breaking the bank is no fun, these are all under $90!
Weekly Refreshment – Espadrilles Under $90
Lace-Up Leopard Flats. This pair is the epitome of style and comfort. I truly believe the leopard print is a neutral. And these are only $28!
Striped Soloudos. These are adorable! And the stripes, ah! The wrap around ankle tie is just the cherry on top.
Lace-up Sandals. The open toe and strappy design is perfect for pairing with your favorite spring dress. Since they are lace up, they adjust really well to your feet so you can walk in them all day. The vibrant orange is so unique and fun!
Flamingo Slippers. These are your classic espadrilles. The flamingo embroidery makes them feel so tropical! I also found a cute pineapple pair that I should have featured in this post.
Yellow Bows. These are so darn cute. The yellow is bright and cheery, right down to the matching yellow soles! I think I need them.
Platform Ankle Strap Sandal. The ankle strap on these sandals makes them really walkable, and they kind of have a 70's vibe. They also come in taupe in black. I honestly have not ordered any shoes from Sole Society that have not been super comfortable and amazing.
Tie Leg Sandals. I really like the platform sole, as you can still get a little height without an uncomfortable heel. Any shoe with a tie leg or lace up is really popular right now.
Ankle Strap Studs. I have heard great things about this particular pair. The studs make them a little bit edgy! They would go perfectly with a skirt or with rolled up jeans.
Do you have a pair of espadrilles? Link your favorite in the comments so I can see!
If you follow me on instagram, you noticed I was in NYC this weekend! Dan and I took an express bus from DC to NYC Saturday morning to meet up with my mom, brother, cousin, and friend Howard. We basically did a blitz tour for the 30 waking hours we were there.
I’m not sure if you noticed, but pineapple-themed clothing, jewelry, shoes, iPhone cases…have been HOT! Maybe because it is a funny-looking yet distinguished and festive fruit, with the aura of a punk rocker with spiky hair. Or possibly because a pineapple is delicious and sweet and automatically makes you think of something tropical, like a piña colada! (yum).
Since last week’s refreshment was such a hit, I’m doing a continuation of my Old Navy favorites. I was looking through the post and comments, and it made me so happy that you are all as big of fans as I am! Their new spring items never disappoint! I had absolutely no trouble finding some more pieces to include in this week’s refreshment.
They always have sales, so do what I do and save some items in your cart until a good one comes along. Try to pick something unique that you don’t already have, or something special to wear on your upcoming trip or night out. During the sale last week I picked up this and this, and this, this, and this are all in my cart for our vacay in June!

Weekly Refreshment: Old Navy Part 2
SLEEVELESS OLIVE JUMPSUIT. I love the smooth fabric of this jumpsuit, making it a little bit dressy. The cuffed hems are such a nice touch! I would wear this with gladiator sandals or heels and a fun clutch.
FAUX LEATHER SADDLE BAG. I LOVE this bag! The color is perfect for spring and the saddle bag style is so on trend. It also comes in cognac if that's your fancy.
STRIPED MIDI TANK DRESS. This is the dress I wore in this post where I debuted my blonde locks. The fabric is SO soft. Like nightgown soft. I know this versatile dress will be on repeat all spring and summer long.
SWING DRESS. This dress comes in both white and blue and is ONLY $15! I adore that about Old Navy. Remember how I was saying in this post that there are some pieces that are interesting enough to wear without much embellishment? This dress would make the cut.
WOVEN CUTWORK MIDI DRESS. Hello feminine dress! This dress is quickly selling out, but I had to include it in the hopes that it would come back in stock. The lacy hem detail and the embroidered sleeves are just SO pretty for spring.
SPLIT NECK TUNIC. This tunic is constructed so that the stripes go every which way. This piece gives you a good bang for your buck because it will last all through spring with your distressed denim or tucked into a pencil skirt for a casual work day.
DENIM VEST. A piece like this screams rock 'n' roll. It kicks any girly look up a notch. I'm in love with my jean jacket and hate that I have to give it up when it gets hot out. With this vest I won't have to sacrifice the look!
STRAW PANAMA HAT. I've been on the lookout for a cute panama hat for under $40. This one is so perfect for just $16! It makes me dream of long days on the beach with a mojito in my hand.
VIVA LA BRUNCH TANK. Brunch is my favorite and who doesn't need a tshirt declaring their favorite thing!? Judging by the amount of bitches who brunch here in DC I think a lot of people need this.
GLADIATOR BLOCK HEEL. These gladiator heels are so hot right now. Probably because they incorporate the lace-up shoe trend, but without the 4" stiletto heel. Yes!
What’s your favorite? Happy hump day!

We had so much fun at the Omni Bedford Spring Resort this weekend. You can also read a little about it in yesterday’s post. The design and color schemes in each grand room are impeccable. I loved looking around at the different wallpapers, fun furniture, and whimsical carpeting.
The spa at the resort is especially nice. I had a much needed facial and a body scrub, and I felt like a brand new person after!
I packed this adorable ASOS frill dress knowing that it would not need too much embellishment. Pieces that are interesting enough to basically stand alone, without too many accessories (belts, necklaces, scarves, etc etc) are perfect for weekend trips because they are just “put on and go.” I just threw on these cute sandals and my new favorite Chloe dupe bag and the outfit was set.
The front frill details with the long bow kind of remind me of a bolo tie. Which is why this post is called the Texas Greyhound. The post is ALSO called the Texas Greyhound because it is the name of the cocktail Dan ordered at the Resort’s Frontier Tavern which was SO TASTY. I actually called them especially to get the recipe for you!
1.5 oz vodka
.75 oz lime juice
.75 oz simple syrup
1.5 oz ruby red grapefruit juice
garnished with salted rim and a piece of grapefruit
Simple and delicious. Can’t wait to make it!
I linked some more “interesting pieces” that do not require much fussing, as they are just pieces of art in themselves. And all of these are under $60!
This weekend Dan and I took a weekend trip to one of our favorite destinations: the Omni Bedford Springs Resort in Bedford, Pennsylvania. Just a 2.5 hour drive from DC, the Omni Bedford is like a little oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Dan and I were engaged at this lovely historical retreat in January of 2014. We just absolutely love it. It was originally known for its natural spring water and was a place of healing. Over the years it started to attract some high society vacationers, including 14 presidents, 7 of whom visited during their presidency.
There is more to come about the beautiful resort, but here are some shots from the gorgeous architectural mastery that is the colonnade porch off of our room.
