Rosé – Pleated Midi and Block Heels

Last week, I set a personal goal to wake up every day at 6:00 a.m. I have always wanted to be a morning person, so I am doing an experiment to see if it is life changing.  I have read many articles about how morning people have extra time to themselves to exercise, pack lunch, drink their coffee – whatever they feel like doing before the day begins. The notion made me jealous.

Since I successfully woke up at 6 a.m. for a whole week,  we had to go out to celebrate the accomplishment.

Friday Fizz: Blue Hues

Blue. It is such a universal color; a crowd-pleaser. You rarely hear someone say “oh well I look terrible in blue” because no one does.

Weekly Refreshment – H&M

H&M is one of those brands you can always count on to be on trend and affordable. If I’m looking for a certain trend that I have a feeling isn’t timeless (think cropped pants or certain statement jewelry) I know H&M will most likely have it. The best part is that I don’t have to commit my entire paycheck to following a “here today, gone tomorrow” fad.

I’m loving what H&M is doing right now with their participation in World Recycle Week. Beginning April 18th until the 24th, you can bring all of your unwanted clothing to H&M and they will recycle it for you. That includes any textiles,  sheets with holes, yucky towels, ripped, whatever they will take it. It is part of an effort to “close the loop” in the textile industry. Pretty cool! As an incentive, you can get a 30% discount.

While you are all thinking about the shmatas that you are going to take to H&M, I found some fantastic new pieces that you can use your 30% discount on.

Fringe Blouse. This blouse is serious enough for work, but fun enough for a weekend look. The white color gives it a springy feel. I have a black tassel blouse (last seen here) and it is a favorite.

Cargo Jacket. A light, sleek jacket is an absolute must this season. I have a dark green one and I wear it ALL THE TIME with everything. It is the best cost per wear item in my closet, hands down. See my jacket here and here.

Suede Sandals. No one thinks they need pink sandals until you spot these. The strappy details and block heel are so on trend. They also come in black.

Fine Knit Cardigan. H&M is my favorite place to shop for basics like cardigans, tees, and tanks because they are inexpensive and come in any color you could desire. I like this blue fine-knit cardigan because it easily transitions from spring to summer.

Tasseled Earrings. Count on H&M to have trendy pieces like these $10 earrings. The burgundy and pink combination is so sophisticated.

Patterned Pencil Skirt. I adore this pattern because it is a little more interesting than polka dots. Sometimes it is nice to mix it up and wear a print on the bottom rather than the top. This skirt would go with any color top, not just the obvious black (although that would still be chic).

Small Shoulder Bag. I believe this bag is based off of the gazillion dollar Gucci Soho bag that no one can actually afford. This one is only $19.99 (happy dance).

Off The Shoulder Blouse. Yes, you can jump on the off-the-shoulder trend train for $15. This top comes in a cute pink flower print (which looks like cherry blossoms) or white. When you go out this summer and see that everyone you know is wearing this top, you will be happy you scooped it up from H&M. I can guarantee it will be sold out quickly.

Statement Necklace. This necklace is definitely an attention-getter. Style it with a monochromatic look so that it doesn't clash.

Morning Coffee: A 7 Minute Makeup Routine

I usually do a style post on Tuesdays. Dan and I shot several looks this weekend, aaaaaand in true form I hated how they all turned out. I just wasn’t feeling the outfits, and I refuse to post a look that I don’t truly believe in. So today I’m switching it up and sharing my current 7-minute makeup routine.

My friends who have seen my makeup collection are probably confused at how I narrowed it down to these specific products. I don’t use these exact products every single time I do my makeup, but they are my go-to never fail products that I know I can rely on in a pinch. Which is why they’ve made the cut into my 7 minute morning makeup routine.

Serrano Chili Margarita – A Petite’s Guide to Appearing Taller

I recently read an article on petite girl style and I took it to heart. I’m 5’1″ so looking taller never hurts.

Friday Fizz : Fun Clutches

A fun clutch can spice up any outfit. I’ve come across so many bags with whimsical, unexpected details.  From words to pom poms, tassels to beads, there is a bag for every taste.

An accessory is a great way to liven a neutral wardrobe without breaking the bank. I personally love wearing my beloved classic pieces over and over, like my green field jacket, chambray shirt, white tops and skinny denim. Come to think of it, my mostly neutral wardrobe could probably use some whimsy from time to time. There are so many stylish clutch bags that are affordable, if you take the time to look. Luckily, I did the work for you and found some really crazy (and some tamer) clutches for your perusal!

Champagne Shirley Temple – Polka Dot Dress

I saw this dress on ASOS (actually pronounced A-sauce! Who knew!?) and it was love at first sight. It reminds me of champagne bubbles dispersing, because the dots are more concentrated at the bottom and wrists. The dots are delicate, rather than clunky and in your face. Sheer sleeves are perfect for the transitioning weather.

This post is titled “Champagne Shirley Temple” because the drink reminds me of this outfit. A Champagne Shirley is made with sparkling wine and grenadine (among other things) which gives the beverage a red tint. Bubbly dress + red lips and shoes, hence the Champagne Shirley. My grandparents used to order me a Shirley Temple when we went out for special occasions (with sprite, of course) when I was little, so it has a sentimental place in my heart.

Most of my recent looks have been casual. I really enjoy posting outfits that I actually wear or plan to wear soon, and I have not had any reason to get dolled up. I think this was my last fancy outfit post and that was a while ago now. This date night post doesn’t count because it was an April Fool’s joke.

We went on a date night last weekend to Doi Moi, a Southeast Asian restaurant in our neighborhood. And I, of course, was thrilled to get all dressed up and put on some lipstick and killer heels! So I’ve just been waiting for the perfect dress-pertunity. That’s opportunity to wear a sweet dress. It is a shift, so I can eat all the delicious food and still feel svelte.

Doi Moi turned out to be really good. We ordered two noodle dishes and an appetizer that they call beef jerky. And cocktails. I ordered a drink called the Zombie – rum, pineapple, passion fruit, lemon, and lime. It came in a really cute mermaid glass, which made it taste even better.

glass of glam glass of glamExcuse the weird streakiness on my legs. I attempted a new self-tanner and I turned out looking like a hot mess. It was actually kind of hilarious! Next time, I’ll do better.

Don’t you just love an excuse to dress up?
